How a startup is usually structured

Early-stage companies are shallow: two founders split the work and nearly everyone reports to one of them. This template shows a seed-stage team of about a dozen, with open roles drawn as dashed cards so investors and candidates can see where the next hires go.

Keep it to two or three layers

At this size a chart with four layers usually means titles are ahead of the work. Most seed teams have founders, a few leads, and individual contributors.

Show open roles

Dashed "open role" cards are the single most useful thing on a startup chart. They turn it into a hiring plan you can drop into a pitch deck.

Name the owner of each function

Even if one person covers sales and marketing, give the function a home so it is obvious who decides.
