Org chart generator

Already have the structure in a list, a spreadsheet or your head? Paste it, or describe it, and get a drawn chart you can edit and export.

Indent each person under their manager (2 spaces or a tab). Use Name | Title | Department. Write Vacant for an open role. Spreadsheets need a header row with Name and Manager (or “Reports to”).

Three ways to generate an org chart

From an indented list

The fastest way to capture a structure is to type it the way you would in a notes app: one line per person, indented under their manager. This page reads the indentation as reporting lines, so a list you already keep in a document or email becomes a chart without re-typing.

From Excel, Google Sheets or your HRIS

Most HR systems (BambooHR, Workday, HiBob, Personio and others) can export an employee list with a manager column. Copy the rows including the header and paste them here, or save as CSV and open it in the chart maker. The manager column can hold the manager’s name or their employee ID, as long as there is an ID column too.

From a description

Planning a structure that does not exist yet, such as next year’s hiring plan or a reorg proposal? Describe it and the AI drafts a conventional structure with realistic titles. Treat it as a first draft: check spans of control, remove roles you don’t need and add the ones it missed.

Frequently asked questions

What formats can I paste?

Three: an indented list (each level indented under its manager, with “Name | Title | Department” or “Name - Title” on each line), a spreadsheet copied straight from Excel or Google Sheets with a header row that includes Name and Manager, or lines of “Name | Title | Department | Manager”.

Is the AI generator free and private?

It is free, limited to a few requests per visitor every ten minutes. Only the description you type is sent to the AI model to produce the chart; it is not stored by HierarchyFlow. Don’t include personal data you are not comfortable sharing, such as salaries or home details.

Can I edit the generated chart?

Yes. Press “Open in the chart maker” to move it into the drag-and-drop builder, where you can rename people, re-parent cards, change styles and export PNG, SVG, PDF or CSV.

How do I mark open positions?

Write “Vacant” as the name, or add “(hiring)” to a line. The chart shows it as a dashed open-role card.
