How a law firm is usually structured

Law firms are run by partners. A managing partner leads the firm, practice groups (for example corporate, litigation and real estate) are each led by a partner with associates and paralegals beneath them, and a firm administrator or COO runs business services such as finance, IT and HR.

Partners own practice groups

Associates and paralegals usually report to the practice group lead, even if they work for several partners. Use dotted lines if one partner directs most of their work.

Show the business side

The firm administrator and their team keep the firm running. Leaving them off makes the chart look like a list of fee earners only.
